Sporting Bengal United are next in action on Saturday week (November 24) and manager Imrul Gazi will use the time off to work with his squad at training.

The Mile End Stadium club have already played in six different competitions during the 2018/19 campaign and because of their busy schedule, it doesn’t allow for much time on the training pitch.

Over the last two months, there has only been one occasion where Bengal have had a free midweek with no game, so Gazi is set to make the most of this period.

He said: “We have no game now until November 24 when we travel to Hullbridge Sports in the Essex Senior League.

“We need this time off to rest and regroup and it will be nice to get the lads on the training pitch because it’s been a while due to our run of games.”

After playing eight matches in October and remaining unbeaten, the east Londoners continued their excellent form into this month of November.

Last Wednesday (November 7), Bengal saw off St Margaretsbury 1-0 at the Mile End Stadium in the Errington Challenge Cup to reach the last eight of the competition.

Mario Embalo scored the only goal of the game and on Saturday Gazi’s men progressed in another tournament – the newly-formed Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy.

In-form Saffron Walden Town visited Mile End, but simply could not live with Bengal’s fine attackers as Steve Carvell netted a brace in a 4-1 victory.

Conditions were horrible for both teams with heavy rain present throughout, but goals from Jason Ngandu and Yasir Rashid wrapped up the win.

“I was really pleased to give two of our under-17s – Raul Gazi and Adil Haque – a run out and to their credit, they were outstanding, so I’m very happy for them both and the club,” added Gazi.

“We again saw the strength in depth the squad has at present which is outstanding. I am having to make changes in key areas game after game and yet we still continue to get results and what is more pleasing is our style of football too, which the supporters are loving as much as we are.”

Bengal are into the last eight of the Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy now, but turn their focus back to the league.

Gazi’s men were in league action on Wednesday night and triumphed 2-1 over Southend Manor thanks to goals from Ashaan Siddik and Adil Haque.
