The two Mile End Stadium clubs need positive results for different reasons this weekend

Sporting Bengal United will be in FA Vase action this weekend and will look to secure another great result.

Last Saturday, Imrul Gazi’s men smashed six past Enfield in the Essex Senior League to bounce back after exiting the FA Cup to Brentwood Town on August 29.

It has increased the positivity in the camp ahead of Sunday’s second qualifying round tie away to Enfield Borough.

Borough, who ply their trade in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One, play home games at Wingate & Finchley’s Maurice Rebak Stadium.

Therefore Bengal will have this Saturday off and instead will be in FA Vase action on Sunday for a 3pm kick-off.

If they can progress, they will pocket £750 in prize money and the Mile End Stadium outfit will be confident of doing so after last weekend’s win.

Ahead of hosting Enfield, the east Londoners had gone three matches without a victory, but two of them included going up against Brentwood in the FA Cup.

Bengal returned to winning ways in style, however, with a scintillating second-half showing.

Steve Carvell put the hosts’ one up at half time and two minutes into the second period Bobby Redwood made it 2-0.

It was three on the hour mark when Jon Watson slotted home from the penalty spot and Codey Cameron took centre stage soon after with two quick goals.

The icing on the cake occurred in the 75th minute when Yasir Rashid made it 6-0 to cap a great day for Bengal.

Gazi’s men also visited Walthamstow in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy last night (Wednesday), but lost 4-1.

It has been a strange few days for Tower Hamlets and they will be looking forward to Saturday’s league encounter with Stansted.

The Airportmen travel to the Mile End Stadium to face AJ Ashanike’s side, who have only played once this week.

Hamlets made the trip up the M11 to take on Sawbridgeworth Town on Friday night and lost by a 5-2 score in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy.

Ashanike’s men were set to get a chance for revenge on Tuesday in the Errington Challenge Cup, but the clash was postponed and it left the east Londoners without a midweek game.
