But Sporting Bengal United beaten twice in Essex Senior League

Tower Hamlets recorded their first win since January last weekend as they beat Clapton 1-0 in an Essex Senior League derby.

Sunday Danie scored the only goal of the game at the Old Spotted Dog after 25 minutes in front of an excellent crowd of 234.

It was Hamlets first success since January 24 when they edged a five-goal thriller with Greenhouse at Cricklefield.

It might have been more had they not missed a second-half penalty, which resulted in Tons being reduced to 10 men, as Luke Kanjor was sent off.

One goal was all Hamlets needed in the end and the victory took them to 26 points ahead of their clash with fellow strugglers Eton Manor at Mile End Stadium.

Hamlets will aim to continue their momentum and also get some revenge for the 2-1 reverse they suffered against Manor earlier in the campaign at Capershotts back in September.

Sporting Bengal United were trying to get back on track away at Ilford last night, but fell to a 4-0 defeat.

Mamun Chowdhury’s team travelled to Cricklefield hoping to rediscover some form following two consecutive league defeats in the last week.

After performing excellently against Haringey Borough in a 2-1 loss, Bengal were disappointingly beaten by London Bari on Saturday.

Although they were level at the break, they eventually fell to a 3-1 defeat at the Mile End Stadium.

Akintunde Akinola scored for Bari 10 minutes before the interval, but Liton Zaman equalised for Bengal on the stroke of half time.

However, Ifedayo Adetunji netted on the hour mark for the visitors and Tony Cookey struck 10 minutes from time to consign the home side to another defeat.

After last night’s encounter against Ilford, Bengal are set to visit Takeley at Station Road this weekend.

They will anticipate a tough time after Takeley smashed FC Romania 6-0 last Saturday.

Bengal are also on the road next Tuesday (March 17) as they go to Arena Stadium to face Southend Manor.

That fixture will be a good opportunity for Chowdhury’s team to start clawing away at the points deficit between themselves and the rest of the division.

Southend Manor are one place above Bengal in the table and the Mile End side will aim to pick up three points from that clash.
