Tal Ben Haim became Avram Grant's fourth signing of the summer on Tuesday, with the Israeli joining on a six-month loan deal from Portsmouth.

Tal Ben Haim became Avram Grant's fourth signing of the summer on Tuesday, with the Israeli joining on a six-month loan deal from Portsmouth.

The strong centre-half played under the new boss at Fratton Park and the versatile defender was obviously keen to remain in the Premier League.

The experienced Ben Haim finished as runners-up in the UEFA Champions League, Premier League and League Cup while at Chelsea and at Pompey reached the FA Cup final while he was at the south-coast side last season.

It was thought that a deal to bring in Ben Haim was dead, after he allegedly failed a medical with a suspected groin injury, but it now seems he has done enough to satisfy the medical staff at Upton Park that his problems are in the past.

The defender is set to be joined at his new club by another new signing, after the club announced they are hours away from bringing another player in.

West Ham have hinted that the player 'is a young international, who represented his country with distinction at the 2010 FIFA World Cup'.
