Beanibazar made it three wins on the trot in their final warm up game before the Greater Sylhet Cup kicks off this weekend with a 2-1 success against Bishwanath.

A passionate game saw both teams start off at a frenetic pace with tackles flying in from all ends of the pitch as both teams vied for on pitch dominance.

After the settling in period, Bishwanath enjoyed a sustained spell of possession in which Pervez Chowdhury’s side frustrated their opponents, but the lack of a cutting edge up front left the score goalless at the half-time interval.

Beanibazar made wholesale changes at the break, including goalkeepers Kunu Miah and Gous Ahmed swapping places.

With chairman Mesba Ahmed in attendance, Emdad Rahman’s team made the breakthrough midway through the second half as Ash Rahman was upended in the penalty area after a clumsy tackle and captain Abdul Wahid made sure from the spot with an incisive bullet-like penalty.

Bishwanath danger man Mohibur Rahman continued to cause problems with his darting runs and distribution.

But 10 minutes before the end an attacking move from Beanibazar involving Wahid, Abdul Komor and Abul Hussain was finished off smartly by Ash Rahman for the game clincher.

It was the energetic wide man’s final contribution as he left the field shortly after with a calf strain.

With Beanibazar seemingly cruising, a late defensive mix-up saw Bishwanath score late in the game. It turned out to be a consolation though as the Beanibazar rearguard held out to chalk up another morale-boosting win.

Manager Emdad Rahman said: “Pervez Chowdhury’s side are no pushovers and I have watched them several times at close hand, so it’s another good win for us.

“The performance of the players gives me, Hamid Yusuf and Afazul Hoque a selection headache ahead of the final squad announcement this week.

“Winning breeds confidence and a positive mindset is always great for preparation. We absolutely take no opponents lightly and as per our philosophy have learnt a great deal from this game.”
