The local Futsal club are currently bottom of the table, but do have a game in hand on their relegation rivals

Genesis coach Trevor Tamatave is confident his young crop of players can avoid relegation from the National Futsal Super League this season.

The east London club are bottom of the table with eight points from their 13 fixtures to date, but with a game in hand on the two teams directly above them.

11th-placed Tranmere Rovers, also in the relegation zone, are one spot above Genesis and only have nine points while Loughborough are 10th level on points with Rovers.

It means with plenty of games left to play, there is still time for the University of East London-based club to survive.

Tamatave said: “I think we can finish above the bottom two. We’ve had a few new players come in, so if we can get a string of games and wins then hopefully it will get us out of the relegation zone.”

Last weekend Genesis boosted their hopes of survival with an encouraging 6-4 home win over Cambridge United.

It was their first victory in three games and has lifted spirits at the club ahead of the business end of the campaign.

Genesis travel to Salisbury United this weekend looking to make it back-to-back wins in the division.

Salisbury are seventh in the table and on 17 points, but Tamatave has sensed a change in mentality from his players in recent weeks.

He added: “Two teams go down, but we are only halfway through the season, so we will do our best to stay up.

“We didn’t start very well at the beginning, but we’ve changed a few things around and made training more intense.

“The players seem to be more focused and we are putting into practise what we have been doing in training on match days, so hopefully we can turn it around.

“A little bit more luck in the matches would help too, but we just want to put a run of form together now.”

When Genesis hosted Salisbury back on October 29, the away side won 6-4 and so Tamatave’s talented youngsters will be out for revenge on Sunday at Five Rivers Leisure Centre.
