He may not have won the coveted track board trophy at Six Day London but Limehouse cycling star Georg Mew Jensen is determined experience more of the same after racing in front of the biggest crowd of their career at the Lee Valley VeloPark.

Mew Jensen finished fifth in the under-21 Talent Cup at Six Day London last week, as he rode with Denmark’s Martin Mollerup in 40-minute Madison races on each of the first three days of the event.

And after rubbing shoulders with the likes of former road world champion Mark Cavendish and Olympic gold medallist Peter Kennaugh, Mew Jensen was motivated to come back to Six Day London as part of the pro ranks, one day.

“It’s been really great, my partner’s come from Denmark so he’s never ridden this track before and we’ve never ridden together,” said the 18-year-old HMT with JLT Condor Cycling Team rider.

“On the first night we rode really well and we got used to each other and got fifth.

“The next day my legs weren’t feeling too good.

“We maintained fifth on general classification and it’s really amazing to ride in front of a crowd because usually in junior races you don’t have a crowd at all.

“Everybody wants to watch the pros but because we’re first on everybody’s really pumped in the crowd and happy to cheer us on.

“It’s really important because you have to be able to deal with the pressure, if you can’t ride in front of a crowd then you can’t be a bike rider really.

“At the pro level the media and everything is on top of you.

“The dream is to come back as a pro rider, I want to ride the road as well but these Six Days are amazing and I’d love to be able to travel the world riding in them.”

The duo finished fifth, seventh and sixth in the three races and finished two laps and 73 points behind eventual winners Bryan Boussaer and Jules Hesters, of Belgium.

Mew Jensen only paired up with Mollerup after a chance meeting at a race earlier this year but they already have plans to race again, following their promising start.

“I raced the Tour of Poland this year and my partner was really friendly to me and he did well so I thought I’d expand my friends a bit and see how it is,” Mew Jensen added.

“I think we’re now going to ride Six Day Copenhagen together, in February.

“The crowd really gets you pumped here in London, people want to have pictures with you and give you high fives and that’s amazing.

“When you’re in the race, you can’t really see anything and you’re all over the place but then someone cheers you on and that gives you an edge.”

Tickets for Six Day London 2018 go on general sale on November 1 at 11am.
