Archant

A combined haul of 57 points Cory Dixon (25) and Jordan Spencer (32) was not enough to give London Lions a sixth win in a row as Lithuanian side BC Vytautas took the spoils in an exhibition match at the Copper Box Arena.

The Lions will have few complaints about the 127-110 result, it being their fourth game in five days and with the BC Vytautas team featuring LiAngelo Ball, who recently declared for the NBA draft, and his brother LaMelo.

The side was coached by LaVar Ball, whose other son, Lonzo, plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.

It would be the Ball Brothers who stole the show for the visitors, with LiAngelo putting up 44 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Lamelo Ball put up a triple double, with 39 points, 16 rebounds and 16 assists, while Dixon was the only double-double holder for the Lions, with 20 rebounds to go with 25 points.

It was the Lions who initially pulled ahead, again thanks to a huge amount of effort and 10 first-quarter points from Dixon, who effortlessly teamed up with Jordan Spencer to cause BC Vytautas trouble on defence.

BC Vytautas started to fight back, though, and by the end of the first quarter the Lions lead had been cut to just two at 30-28.

The second quarter saw BC Vytautas doing their best to pull clear but Spencer had other ideas and five three-point shots in under five minutes would see the Lions in serious contention.

His skill was outstanding and naturally complementing that of Dixon, who didn’t stop working whenever he was on court.

By the end of the first half, the Lions were behind by just one point (65-64) and a big Copper Box crowd was loving it.

The third quarter saw the Lions just as competitive, but start to slip behind and trail 98-89.

The hosts chose to give their bench players and local talent more exposure with some interesting results, including watching Lamar Roberts bat away several of the Ball brothers shots.

With just under five minutes to go, the Lions were down 117-100 as the toll of the previous few days, including BBL wins over leaders Leicester and second-placed Newcastle, started to show.

They do not have much time to rest however, with another vital game against the Plymouth Raiders at the Copper Box tonight (Wednesday, 7.30pm).
