London Lions players visited students at Kensington Aldridge Academy recently to run a coaching clinic and to give out free tickets to their games.

Kensington Aldridge Academy is situated very close to Grenfell Tower and lost four pupils and one former student, with more than 60 pupils having to be re-housed, in the 2016 tragedy.

Lions MVP of the league and GB international, Justin Robinson, visited the school alongside team mates Jordan Spencer and Kervin Bristol.

“My teammates and I were so humbled by the students at Kensington Aldridge Academy,” Robinson said.

“We met a fantastic bunch of students and there’s certainly huge basketball talent within the school.

“We would like to urge Lions fans to give what they can to the KAA Intrepidus Trust to provide these young people with more opportunities.”

The KAA Intrepidus Trust (KIT) has been working with the school to support staff and students through this difficult period and beyond, give opportunities to students in sports, arts and other academic enrichments.

Set up in November 2017 by a group of the school’s governors, KIT’s mission is to broaden the horizons of the 1,200 pupils of Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA), 68% of whom are identified by the government as the most disadvantaged; double the national average.

They aim to provide pupils with opportunities which equal the best that can be found anywhere in the country, through the delivery of an ambitious programme of performing & creative arts, life-skills, academic and sports enrichments.

The trust’s name comes from the school motto, Intrepidus — Latin for fearless. Lucy Morris, chairwoman of the trust, said the school has “extraordinary teachers and students - a community that has been tested to breaking point and shown fierce resilience”.

Head Mr Benson said: “The launch of the KIT is also a big step forward. We are determined to give our students the very best opportunities in life.”
