League hand out three-game suspension for Isle of Wight brawl
London Raiders have been hit by the news that starting goalie Michael Gray has been given a three-match ban by the English Ice Hockey Association.
Gray received a game misconduct penalty towards the end of the second period during his side’s National League cup clash with the Isle of Wight last weekend, but the disciplinary committee has now also handed out several suspensions.
As well as Gray’s ban, Wight’s Ben Paynter has been given a six-match ban, for fighting and fighting and resisting an official, while Corey Watkins has a five-match ban for fighting and Danny Ingoldsby has received a three-match ban.
Young back-up goalie Harry Buckingham replaced Gray last weekend for his debut and it proved a baptism of fire for the 16-year-old, who was beaten five times in the final period as Wight eventually skated off 9-3 winners.
Unless the club can now find a temporary replacement for the suspended Gray, Buckingham will face Wight in a quick return meeting at Lee Valley on Sunday, followed by home cup fixtures against Chelmsford on October 15 and Invicta on October 22.
