Millwall claim first points of the season with Old Cooperians draw
Powell happy with his side’s performance
Millwall RFC stand-in captain Randall Powell was pleased with his side’s performance as the Lions picked up their first points of the season in a 12-12 draw at home to Old Cooperians, writes Nathaniel John.
The home side started the better and took the lead by capitalising on some poor defending from the visitors to score two tries in quick succession.
However, after a spell defending their five-metre line, Millwall finally allowed Old Cooperians to get back into the game with a try, as the scoreboard read 12-5 at half time.
The visitors had most of the possession in the second half and with five minutes left to play, scored another try for a final score of 12-12.

“I think that we did well and we are happy to come away with something rather than nothing,” said Powell.
“The draw was probably fair, but Old Coops had plenty of the ball.

“There was a spell when we were defending our five-metre line and they should have scored five or six tries, so if anything, the draw is a bit harsh on Old Coops.”
Powell was delighted with how some of the newer faces in the squad performed.
“We had two guys making their debuts and six new players in the starting XV,” he said.
“Our coach Warren Abrahams has been great at bringing the guys together and getting us to play in the way that he wants us to.
“I think that the result from Saturday will kick-start our season.”
Millwall are next in action on Saturday, October 22, when they travel to Billericay.
