Morpeth School boys and girls table tennis teams dominated the recent first round of matches at the Junior British League under-18 championships held in Stoke-on-trent.

Morpeth School boys and girls table tennis teams dominated the recent first round of matches at the Junior British League under-18 championships held in Stoke-on-trent.

Morpeth boys consisting of Ashley Facey-Thompson (14) and Rafi Conn-Kowlessar (14) (pictured below), are leading the boys division 2B.

Morpeth won four matches defeating Barrow (Cumbria) 4-2, Hull (York) 4-2, Crusades (Surrey) 4-2 and drawing with Rugby (Nottingham) 3-3.

In the final match, Morpeth defeated DHS Progress 4-2 before going into the second round of matches in February.

Morpeth girls' under-18 'A' team, consisting of Sally Hoang (16), Majada Yasmin (14) and Sayeeda Miah also 14, finished joint second in division two of the Junior British League after the first round of matches.

Morpeth defeated DHS (London) Progress 4-2, Uxbridge (Lincolnshire) 4-2 and Oldham 5-1.

Morpeth lost to Spicer/York cadet 2-4 and drew with St Andrews (Sussex) 3-3.

Morpeth Girls under-18 'b' team consisting of Chantal Wilson and Harriet Taylor finished top of the Junior British League division three by winning all five matches easily.

Morpeth defeated DHS London Progress 'C' 6-0, Speedwell Table Tennis Academy (Derby) 6-0, Sussex Alliance 5-1, Ellenborough (Middlesex) 4-2 and Team Peniel 'B' 4-2.

Morpeth coach Grant Solder said: "All three Morpeth Teams played extremely well in the UK's premier Table Tennis event.

"This event has been fantastic preparation for Morpeth's defence of their England Schools' National title in March and before we represent England as their sole representatives in the world |Schools' Table Tennis Championships.
