London Raiders forward Alan Lack faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a nasty facial injury in their match against Invicta.

Goals from Jake Sylvester, Brandon Ayliffe and Marek Nahlik sealed a 3-1 National League win at Lee Valley, but the success was overshadowed by Lack’s misfortune.

After being struck in the face by a fast-moving puck, Lack was taken by ambulance to a hospital A&E ward, then on to a specialist plastic surgery unit.

And after losing two teeth, he required a total of 54 stitches in his lip and mouth, with two braces inserted and a further operation required to insert a metal plate in his upper jaw.

Father-of-two Lack, 25, is married to former Raiders physio Samantha, the sister of ex-Raiders forward Grant Taylor and a statement on the club’s facebook page said: “Clearly it will be a long road to recovery ahead for Alan and we renew our hopes that this can be as speedy and comfortable as possible.

“Our thoughts are also extended to the Lack and Taylor family, who must be pretty stressed at this moment.

“As a footnote to this, many thanks to Matt and Starlene who attended to Alan whilst awaiting the ambulance.”

Rivals clubs and supporters sent their best wishes to Lack through social media on Sunday, with team-mate Andy Munroe posting on Twitter: “Thoughts are with Lacky and his family this morning. It’s never nice to see one of your team mates get seriously hurt like that. Wishing you the best for your op and a speedy recovery mate.”

Lack has scored six points in 15 matches this season, taking his Raiders carry tally to 45 (20 goals, 25 assists).

And Raiders are set to visit Invicta for the final match in their cup group on Sunday (5.15pm), having beaten the Dynamos in all five meetings between the two sides so far this season.

They will be looking to end 2017 on a high as they head into the festive break, before beginning the new year with a trip to Cardiff on January 6.
