Brandon Ayliffe’s third-period goal proved decisive as Raiders ended the visitors five-match winning run, ahead of a trip to leaders Peterborough on Sunday.

Raiders were without young defenceman Callum Burnett, while the visitors arrived minus James Warman, Joe Allen and Alec Goldstone.

And Streatham were first on the scoreboard in the seventh minute through Adam Carr, only to lose Adam Wood to a match penalty for high sticking.

And Raiders capitalised just five seconds into the major powerplay through Marek Nahlik to level things up.

The scoreline remained unchanged at the first break, with Raiders edging the shot count 10-9, but the hosts took the lead barely four minutes into the middle session as Nahlik – with only two goals in his previous seven matches – netted his second goal of the night.

The goal was allowed to stand, after Streatham goalie Matt Colclough appeared to knock the net off its moorings, and the gloves came off when Callum Wells and Aidan Doughty tangled.

Streatham were back on terms through Michael Farn in controversial circumstances, with Raiders goalie Michael Gray – November’s player of the month – receiving a penalty for disputing the goal with the officials, claiming he had been illegally impeded in the build-up to the goal.

And Raiders fell foul of the referee again in the final stanza, with Sean Barry and Julian Smith picking up minor penalties and John Connolly handed a 10-minute misconduct.

The home side survived the spell of 5-on-3 and then edged ahead as Ayliffe netted in the 46th minute, which ended up settling the outcome as Raiders held on to their lead in the time remaining.

Wells took the man of the match award for Raiders, who claimed their second win in six league and cup meetings with their rivals from the capital this season.
