Indoor League draws to a close
Newham College were crowned champions of the Essex CCB/UEL League in the final round of fixtures at UEL’s SportsDock.
Newham celebrated in style, as they picked up a 37-run victory over their own B team in a friendly to complete a successful campaign.
The A team batted first and posted 103-3 from their 10 overs with Zeeshan Khan (26), Hamza Omar (20), Mahattir Kaffurudeen (19) and captain Fasil Fajarul (11) among the runs.
The B team hit back through Adnan Rahim (25), Tariq Jan (16) and Nasratullah Ahmed (10).
But good bowling from Mujakkir Hussain (2-15), Muhammed Rahim (0-13) and Hamza Omar (0-11) saw the A team to a comfortable triumph.
Leyton Sixth Form College won the battle for second place ahead of NewVic B, despite the B team thrashing NewVic A.
NewVic B posted the exact same total as Newham A had in the other match of 103-3.
Muhammed Ahsan (25), skipper Sohail Khan (19) and Aswad Mohammed (17) top scored, while Ali Pasha (1-27) took the only wicket.
In response, NewVic A slumped to 33 all out with captain Azhar Uddin (17) scoring more than half the runs.
Sabik Ahmed (2-11) and Habib Kaffurudeen (0-1) both finished with exceptional figures for the winners.
George Monoux College signed off in style with a four-wicket win over NewVic A.
NewVic batted first, but only Prathmesh Joshi (16) offered any kind of resistance in their below-par 65-5.
Rameez Rehman (2-10), Sanam Ali (1-23) and Khalil Khan (1-18) dominated with the ball for George Monoux.
And they had few problems in their run-chase, reaching the total with over two overs to spare.
Khalil Khan (4) and Owais Abdul-Rehman (3) led them home to fourth in the final league standings after good work from openers Rameez Rehman (26) and skipper Hanif Khan (22).
