There was no stopping the quartet of east London Elite ABA title hunters as Repton duo Chris Ali and Sam McNess, alongside West Ham hopes Lucien Reid and Luke Saunders, all moved through the quarter-finals at Harlow on Sunday.

They now head for the semi-finals at Grove Park, Lewisham, on April 6, when the winners will move forward to the national finals, booked for Sunderland on April 20.

Bantamweight Reid began the victory parade as he surpassed his 2012 effort — when he was beaten in the quarter-finals — with a points success over Harwich rival Joe Avenall at the Harlow greyhound stadium.

The West Ham hopeful had to battle all the way to defeat a gallant opponent, but it was Reid who slammed home the sharper shots in every round to triumph on a majority verdict from the ringside judges.

Ali continued his featherweight title march as he dominated the exchanges against strong Norwich Diamonds’ opponent Danny May from the opening bell.

Long-range jabs, solid hooks and effective uppercuts all found the target as the Repton entry poured on the punches, and May did well to survive the full distance when the unanimous verdict went to Ali.

Repton welterweight Sam McNess had his testing title path made easier when his scheduled opponent Ryan Frost (Harwich) withdrew, leaving him with a walkover into the semi-final.

The 18-year-old 71kg southpaw Saunders continued the impressive form that saw him eliminate ABA champion Kelvin Fawaz in the London finals, as he punished Haddenham’s game light-middleweight Liam Goodjohn on Sunday.

To his credit, Goodjohn soaked up the speedy shots that powered through his defences in every round and bravely survived until the final bell, when the sharpshooting Hammers’ hope took the unanimous vote.

? Newham entertain local clubs at their show at the East Ham Working Men’s Club on Friday, April 5.

They will parade their own juniors in contests alongside the seniors of neighbours Peacock BC and tickets are available at the door priced at £10 and £5 concessions.

Newham boxer Kane Wilson-Stroud was in winning form on Camberley’s show on Saturday when he boxed well to outpoint Lee Cole (Sporting Ring).

But in another meeting between the clubs John Cole, Lee’s cousin, had a points win over Reece Fleet.
