Big-punching heavyweight prospect Larry Olubamiwo has surrendered his unbeaten record following a shock defeat against Russian journeyman Daniel Peret.

Former Repton ace Olubamiwo was outpointed over six rounds on a Frank Maloney promotion at Sunderland on Saturday night as Peret recorded only his 16th win in 37 fights.

Olubamiwo had chalked up explosive wins in his first four professional contests under the Maloney banner and was strongly fancied to add Peret to his list of victims.

Yet the booming blows that had seen the 30-year-old defeat each of his previous opponents inside two rounds failed to trouble the experienced Russian.

And the Hackney fighter tired in later rounds as Peret, now based in Trondheim, Norway, fired back with his own effective shots to take a 59-57 points verdict.

l Poplar's Lansbury BC enjoyed a double success at the East Ham Working Men's Club tournament on Friday night.

Asa Vassallo maintained his impressive recent form to outscore Dave Rider, from Swanley, with a good display of accurate punching.

Ra Khan was also a winner for Lansbury as he subdued Welwyn Garden City BC opponent John Smith to take a deserved points verdict

The tournament also witnessed an all-action meeting between Fairbairn's Egat Farouk and Repton fighter Mamoc Bediako, in which Farouk came under early pressure but fought back in style to clinch a points win over his Bethnal Green rival.

Also in action at the East Ham show was Newham's former Repton boxer Luke Keller, who proved too good for Five Star BC rival Keith Box to earn a points triumph.

Vassallo had previously extended his record with a good-value points verdict against Lee Smith, from Chelmsford, on a West Ham BC show.

In a tough contest, Vassallo maintained constant pressure to subdue his willing rival and earn the decision from the ringside judges.

Lansbury's Ishmael Haqq collected a points win over Joe Shepherd in a return contest after dropping a verdict against the West Ham boxer.

Tony Buttigieg beat Pat Protain from Newham. In a clash of skilful boxers, Buttigieg's sharper attacks won the judges' decision.

Lansbury's George Stockdale lost on points to Alan Smith from Dale Youth in a closely-fought contest.
