Enland Hockey unveiled the launch of #BehindEveryGreatPlayer, an integrated communications campaign that celebrates the importance of supportive role models in achieving sporting success.

The launch of #BehindEveryGreatPlayer coincides with 50 days to go (1st June) until the start of the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup which kicks off on July, 21 and runs through to August, 5 2018.

Utilising powerful video content featuring England Hockey players and their relatives, #BehindEveryGreatPlayer has been created to maximise visibility and enhance perceptions of hockey, especially amongst parents of children that play, as well as the wider general public.

A series of videos capture the relationships between the England Hockey players and their relatives and explore the ways in which relatives play a pivotal role in supporting and nurturing children to unlock their potential – both as people and players.

England Hockey captain Alex Danson, said: “We proudly work tirelessly on and off the field in preparation for incredible tournaments like our home World Cup, but perhaps something we don’t acknowledge well enough is the amazing people behind the scenes; whether it’s our family, friends, volunteers, coaches, the list is endless.”

“It’s their passion, dedication and time they give us which really is the absolute bedrock to our success as players and also as people.

“That truly is what’s behind every great player.”

Commenting on the launch of #BehindEveryGreatPlayer, Giselle Ansley, England Hockey player, who stars in the campaign with her mum Sue, said: “I was introduced to the sport of hockey almost from birth – My mum used to take me to games in my pram. From my first moments playing hockey, my mum has always been right by my side supporting me through thick and thin.”

England Hockey’s strategic mission is to leverage hosting the World Cup on home soil to enhance the public perception of hockey across the country.

Since London 2012, the number of young girls playing the sport has doubled and it is hoped that hosting the event on home soil will continue to grow the sport in 2018 and beyond.

The Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup takes place from July, 21 to August, 5 2018. ,This is the biggest women’s hockey event in the world.

A total of 16 world-class teams, including England, will be welcomed to the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre on Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the home of the sport.
