The men lost 4-2 to the reigning world champions, while the women went down 4-1 in their match, despite a first GB goal for Hampstead & Westminster's Sarah Robertson.

And both sides will now move on to the Netherlands at the weekend, with the women playing in Eindhoven on Saturday (5pm) and the men on Sunday (3pm).

The men found themselves four goals down after 20 minutes but produced a spirited second-half fightback.

Cedric Charlier scored twice for the hosts, with Tom Boon and Alexander Hendrickx also on target, before Danny Kerry's side - including Hampstead & Westminster's Harry Martin and Will Calnan - hit back through Phil Roper and Luke Taylor.

Vincent Vanasch produced two key saves to deny GB any further goals, though, and Roper said: "At half time we tried to reset and get back to our game plan. We did that, put our game out there and the positive is that we won the second half - but we can't make mistakes like we did in the first half. Next is the Netherlands, we'll go there with a positive mindset and aim for a positive result but there are no easy games in the FIH Pro League."

The women - who included Havering's Emily Defroand - had beaten Belgium in their previous meeting at Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre 11 days earlier, but fell behind after seven minutes.

And they were 3-0 down early in the second half, before Scottish international Robertson replied with a well-taken goal.

Belgium restored their three-goal lead moments later, though, and GB captain Hollie Pearne-Webb said: "We're disappointed with the result and performance. We'll look back on it before we play Holland, but it wasn't to the level we expect from us.

"We won't lose too much confidence, it's another tough game this weekend and we know we can do better."
