Team drop down a league despite mathematically securing safety

In a bizarre and very unfortunate turn of events, Wapping’s fifth XI (pictured, right) have been relegated from East Hockey League Division 4SE despite mathematically securing safety.

The team are coming to terms with relegation back to the league that they won so convincingly last year despite securing a place in their current division next year with their incredible form since Christmas.

However, Wapping’s third XI being relegated into 4SE means they join the fourths and the fifths who were already in that division.

This means that mandatory relegation was forced upon the fifths as league rules state that only two teams can represent the same club in one division.

A somewhat dull silver lining will be the confidence that they have the capability to win the division they will now be part of.

The rest of the men’s section had a season of consolidation. The first XI succeeded in staying in the Premier A league as results went their way in the last few weeks.

Whereas the second XI had a strong push for promotion but unfortunately the wheels came off toward the closing weeks.

Toward the bottom of the club, the Men’s sixth and seventh teams both secured their safety and have remained in their respective leagues despite a tough season.
