Student Union offer activities for youngsters

Queen Mary Student Union’s sports camps are returning and are set to be bigger and better than before.

Run by the Union’s nationally recognised Community Sport programme, the sports camps offer a range of fun activities for eight to 13 year olds including football, netball, rounders, basketball and many more sports.

Participants learn in the morning through games and challenges and utilise these newly-developed skills in afternoon tournaments.

Children of all abilities are encouraged to develop their sporting and social skills in an enjoyable and positive environment and bBookings are currently being taken for an Easter holiday camp and multiple weeks of summer camp.

Participants will experience at least 10 sports per week, including new sports such as flag football, tag rugby and ultimate Frisbee.

Camps run from 10am to 4pm and there is an option for extended hours from 9am to 5pm, with all who register for a full week also receiving a free t-shirt.

Sports Camps are taking place during the weeks of April 4-8, August 1-5, August 8-12, August 22-26 and August 29-September 2.

Single-day options are available from just £9.99, with week-long options from just £39.99.

*The Queen Mary Students’ Union Community Sport programme aims to increase activity levels within Tower Hamlets, using students as sports coaches and officials.

Since August 2013 they have trained 90 students, facilitating over 1,000 hours of sport in the borough.

Through Community Sport, students can hugely increase their employability by taking on voluntary and paid placements with local sporting organisations.

In 2015 Queen Mary were nominated by Times Higher Education in the category of “Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community”, as well as by London Sport in the category of “Bigger and Better Workforce”.

Queen Mary Students’ Union is a democratic membership organisation that is the voice of all students.

The Union ensures that the College and wider community are listening to what students want and works to improve students’ experience.

Every Queen Mary student is automatically a member of the Union and has a say in how it is run through elections and their representatives.

The Union provides a number of student-run activities, like sports clubs, societies, student media and volunteering and as well as student-led events it also provides services in Mile End and Whitechapel including a sport and fitness centre and several shops and venues.
