Marshall: We can nick win in Cardiff

Raiders player-coach Danny Marshall is relishing the chance of revenge in Cardiff tomorrow (Saturday).

His threadbare squad made it three National League wins in a row with a comfortable success at bottom club MK Thunder last weekend.

And Marshall wants them to maintain their momentum in Wales, saying: “The last time at Cardiff we only had nine skaters (losing 4-1), but we’ve got 10 key guys now and I’ve no doubt we can go and nick a win and continue what we’re doing.”

Jakub Klima helped himself to four more goals on the small, temporary rink in Milton Keynes and Marshall feels the Czech import is answering his critics, following his move from Invicta.

He added: “Jakub is playing really well. He has come in and he’s happy and I find that’s the best way to get the most out of your players.

“A lot of players don’t do that well at Invicta but I believe he is now the top points scorer in the league.”

Klima’s latest haul took him to 51 league points (22+29) this term, ahead of Dynamos duo Callum Fowler and former Raider Juraj Huska, while JJ McGrath trebled his goals tally for the campaign with a brace.

Marshall added: “It was good to see McGrath get a couple of goals. They were well needed, but sometimes it goes that way for people. Hopefully he can continue scoring now.

“It’s never easy there. They’ve got some good players and you never know on a rink like that. If you go down a couple of goals, you could end up losing.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they do turn teams over, but we’ve got standards to produce.”

Marshall revealed he had been in talks with some prospective new signings, but paid tribute to his wafer-thin roster for their efforts in recent weeks, since the release of five Peterborough-based players.

He said: “I’ve had a few players approach me, interested in coming to us, and I intended taking a couple of them, but in the end they decided not to.

“We had hoped to get Vas (Romanas Fedotovas) from Lee Valley. He wanted to come to us but the Lions were not too happy about it. I’m not going to be selfish about it, we’ve got to keep Lee Valley happy.

“The guys I’ve got are doing a job and it’s a happy camp. We’ve just got to keep everyone on the ice and away from injuries. It’s not always easy, but so far, so good.”
