London Raiders defenceman John Connolly is delighted to cap off a good series against rivals Invicta Dynamos last weekend.

The Romford-based outfit kept their hopes alive of finishing fourth in the National Ice Hockey League as the cruised to a comfortable 7-1 victory in Gillingham on Saturday.

Sean Easton’s men have faced the Dynamos eight times this season and came up triumphs on all those occasions.

“We knew going into their barn it would be tough, especially with two practices and a mid week game thrown into the mix,” Connolly said.

“I think we got off to a quick start with two goals inside the first ten minutes, we never had the best second period, but we finished the game playing how we know we can in the third.”

In recent years the Kent-based outfit have got the better of the Raiders and Connolly believes it goes to show how far the club has come this season.

“Yeah definitely, winning our series eight nil just shows how far we have come as a team in recent years and hopefully it can continue.”

The 26-year-old defenceman came up against his younger brother Ross Connolly in the match but he admits you can’t think about being family on the ice.

“It’s not odd playing against my brother, as once you’re on the ice they’re no friends or family,” he said.

“All that matters is the two points.”

Raiders will now turn their attention to their third match at their new home in Romford when they take on league leaders Basingstoke Bison at the Sapphire Ice & Leisure Centre on Sunday (5.15pm).
