Raiders fans are being given the chance to pick the team of Legends which will play against the 2018/19 squad at Romford’s Sapphire Ice & Leisure Centre on Sunday August 26, writes Lee Power.

The special match is being staged as part of a celebration of the sport’s full-time return to Romford town centre for the new campaign, with a golf day also being held at Romford Golf Club on Tuesday August 21.

And supporters are now being asked to submit their individal choices for the 22 spots available on the Legends teamsheet, made up of two goalies, eight defencemen and 12 forwards.

Fans in North America get the chance to vote for who they want to see playing in the NHL’s All-Star Game each year and Raiders have decided upon a similar method for their own prestigious fixture.

A list of the top 100 players who have made the most appearances for Raiders has been released from which fans can pick from and a maximum five imports (two defenceman, three forwards) out of 20 named on the list are allowed to be included.

A club statement said: “Management will have the final decision, should there be a tied vote for a certain player or if his dressing room demands prove to be outside of budget!

“Happy selecting and get your chosen squad back to us as soon as you have stopped reminiscing!”

The club are also in the process of auctioning off the limited edition jerseys used in the team’s first match at the Sapphire, with those worn by John Connolly, Thomas Beesley and Matt Turner having already sold online.

The number 26 shirt of Julian Smith is the latest up for grabs, with more to follow. See the club’s facebook page for more details.
