London Raiders saw their losing run extend to five matches with defeat against their namesakes at Lee Valley Ice Arena last night.

The home side, without Frankie Harvey, Tom Davis and Ross Wilkinson, gave a debut to another youngster in Stevie Dunnage but could not recover after a slow start, which saw them fall two goals down in the opening seven minutes.

Jaroslav Cesky put Wight ahead at 6:28, before combining with Craig Tribe to set up Alex Barker for the second visiting goal just 33 seconds later.

Mike Brabon faced 11 shots in the home net in the first period, with Michael Gray out injured, while Christian Cole turned aside all 11 shots that came his way at the other end of the rink.

And Cesky made it 3-0 after only nine seconds of the second period, before Stephen Balmer added a fourth assisted by Richard Facey in the 22nd minute.

London finally got on the scoreboard in the 28th minute as Phil Manny converted on a powerplay, with assists going to Jakub Klima and Danny Marshall.

But Wight restored their four-goal cushion within two minutes of the start of the final period as Balmer claimed his second of the night.

The hosts grabbed another powerplay goal with nine minutes left as defenceman Manny struck again, but it was little consolation as Carl Graham replied with Wight’s sixth on another disappointing evening for Marshall’s men.

They will look to end their string of defeats when they head to Milton Keynes tonight.

But they will come up against a Thunder side who have already recorded some impressive results so far this season, with Damien King – younger brother of former Raiders goalie Euan – impressing between their pipes after dropping down from EPL side Peterborough.

Scorers, London: Manny 2 Marshall 0+2 Klima* 0+1.

Wight: Cesky* 2+1 Balmer 2 Barker 1+2 Graham 1 Tribe 0+2 Facey 0+2 Griffiths 0+1.

Penalty minutes: London 6 Wight 26.

Shots faced: Brabon (Ldn) 35 Cole (IOW) 33.
