Repton boys make their mark

Boxers shine against London rivals
Repton’s Faisal Mohammed Khan came out on top against Lansbury’s Farhad Salam in a NE London Junior final at the Prince Regent Hotel in Chigwell on Saturday.
The pair, boxing for the second time in three nights after semi-final wins on Thursday, provided a close-fought encounter, with Khan landing the sharper shots to win.
Two nights earlier clashes between Repton and Newham rivals had provided highlights of the NE London Junior championships, including a meeting of National champions.
Rival 2014 schools winner Henry Turner (Repton) and Newham’s Alfie Mehegan supplied the high standard encounter before Turner took the points verdict.

However the tables were turned in another meeting of the local clubs as Ishmael Islam provided an impressive display to win an outstanding clash with Repton’s Gary Haffenden.
The Bethnal Green club boxers provided most of the entries and the winners on finals night, including John Connor Lee beating Amo Sing (Lion).

Jamal Khan (Repton) overcame strong Fairbairn opponent Gulshan Nota to book his place in the London finals this weekend.
Meanwhile, Repton’s Harvey Horn is set to make his GB debut in the in the World Series of Boxing at Bethnal Green’s York Hall tonight (Thursday).
Horn, the 2014 ABA Elite champion, is named for the light flyweight spot in the GB squad that will be tested by the Mexico Guerreros team.
The team also includes middleweight Antony Fowler, bantamweight Qais Ashif and light-welterweight Sam Maxwell and tickets will be available on the door.
n East London’s Peacock gym became the hottest training spot in town this week, with a string of big name fighters going through their final workouts before Frank Warren’s 02 promotion on Saturday.
WBO International heavyweight champion Christian Hammer was preparing for his showdown duel with home hope Tyson Fury in the 12-round top liner, when the European heavyweight title is also on the line.
WBA Interim world middleweight champ Dmitry Chudinov and challenger Chris Eubank Jnr were also at the gym, performing media work-outs before their duel.
Other star names booked for the bill and training at the Canning Town venue were British and Commonwealth super-featherweight champion Liam Walsh, WBO European super-middleweight champion Frank Buglioni and WBO European welterweight title challenger Bradley Skeete.
The most familiar face on show was current English welterweight champion Ahmet Patterson, who is a regular at the gym, training under the eye of Martin Bowers and defends the title and unbeaten record against Sunderland’s Glenn Foot, with both fighters having chalked up 14 straight victories.
Former Repton amateur Buglioni will be cheered on by his enthusiastic following when he defends his belt against Ivan Jukic, while Walsh risks his titles against Joe Murray and Skeete challenges Anzor Gamgbeli for a vacant crown.
Lewis Pettitt’s WBA International super-bantamweight title defence, undefeated Manchester light-heavyweight Dempsey Fury and the pro debut of Boy Jones Jr are also featured.
