REPTON ruled the night at the start of the of the ABA title trail by claiming an impressive seven North East London divisional titles at Newham Leisure Centre on Friday.

Victories for Lee Ballard, Danny Clark and Lee Newman plus walkover wins for Oscar Webb, Iran Sheikh, Talia Lodhi and Damian Campbell underlined Repton's dominance ahead of nearest rivals Peacock Boxing Club.

The Bethnal Green club's winners now head for the London ABA semi-finals at York Hall on April 12 with the finals following the same evening.

There was a walkover win for Repton's Young England flyweight Oscar Webb at Under-51kg, while experienced campaigner Lee Ballard clinched the Under-57kg honours with a close win over Scott Burrell.

Ballard has been out of action for a year and was pushed all the way by Peacock club youngster Burrell, who took some solid punches but refused to give in before the Repton fighter took a unanimous points verdict and the title.

The Under-60kg lightweight division was the only class that needed two contests with Repton's super-fit Danny Clark coming through tough tussles with West Ham's Peter Akubuko and Barking club entry Sam Marson.

Clark's semi-final clash with Akubuko started the championship in all-action style, with the well-matched rivals trading solid shots in every round.

But the Repton hope showed fierce determination to soak up the shots from his rival and fire back with his own effective attacks, and Clark pressed home his advantage in the final round to take a deserved points verdict.

The final was another hard-fought clash but again the Repton lightweight's fierce pace swayed the verdict his way.

Marson tried to box his way through but Clark brushed off his opponent's shots and slammed back with his own blows to take the majority decision and a well-earned divisional trophy

Under-69kg Repton welterweight Lee Newman battled all the way for a points win over Peacock's Dalton Miller.

Newman poured on the punches in every round and his sharp attacks subdued the willing Peacock boxer.

Repton pair Talia Lodhi and Damien Campbell claimed titles with walk-over wins in the Under-81kg and Over-91kg categories respectively.

l Sam Bezinna was the show stealer in the junior support bouts ahead of the divisional championships.

Repton youngster Bezzina sparkled with a points win over Norwich rival Chris Wright, scoring with effective shots on his way to victory by a well-earned verdict.

Other Repton wins on the night came from Josh Annelle, who was a third-round winner against Newham's Harry Sirim, while tall Charlie Cook outscored Dale Youth prospect Rhys Rosser.

Rai Wilmott was another Repton winner with a majority vote against St George's fighter Bernie Ward and Repton's Michael Harris secured a points decision over Dale Youth's Mike McDonagh.

In a clash between two NABC finalists Paul Fanneran, from Dale Youth, took a close decision against Repton rival George O'Mahoney.

St George's debutant Chris Ali also claimed an impressive win over Repton's experienced Connor Packman.

Ali showed considerable promise against tough opponent Packman and took the decision for a good debut triumph.
