Repton duo Tom Baker and Sam McNess recorded an impressive national title double in the NACYP finals
Repton duo Tom Baker and Sam McNess recorded an impressive national title double in the NACYP finals at two different venues last week.
Baker stayed close to home for his NABC final decider on Thursday night at the Troxy, Stepney, where he prevailed against Callum Smith, from Merseyside's Rotunda BC, in an enthralling contest.
The high-standard clash for the Class C Under-69kg title was a storming encounter from start to finish, with both boxers taking stiff shots and firing back with their own counters.
The outcome was still in the balance at the final bell but the judges gave Baker the decision by a single-point margin

McNess had earlier lifted a Class B title in Sheffield following a good win over St Albans rival Mules Cash on Tuesday.
The capable Repton boxer dominated the exchanges against a gallant rival, but the judges' final verdict saw a 10-7 decision for another Repton title triumph and the latest success for the McNess clan.

Repton prospect Luqmaan Patel pulled off a superb win double over two outstanding title winners to clinch the North East London junior ABA title at the Five Star club, Harold Hill on Saturday.
He was put to the test in his opening bout in the Class Four Under-46kg division after being paired with West Ham champion Charlie Driscoll.
It was an evenly fought contest but Patel came out on top to take the decision and earn a London final place against Charlie Edwards, a Newham boxer with a European Schoolboys gold medal on his impressive trophy list.
But it was the Repton boxer who sparkled in another tight tussle and took the points verdict for a revenge win against a rival who had defeated him earlier in the London Youth finals.
In an all Repton final, there was a points win for Chris Ali over Lucien Reid in the Class Four Under-48kg title decider.
