Repton youngster Simon Baker has clinched his place in the National Schools Championships quarter-finals

REPTON youngster Simon Baker has clinched his place in the National Schools Championships quarter-finals following another impressive performance at Beringsfield, Oxfordshire on Saturday.

Baker was the only boxer from the Bethnal Green club in action and he dominated his clash with Apex rival and Home Counties champion Chris Hutchins, earning a convincing win in the Class Two Under-57kg encounter.

Baker will now join the rest of the Repton hopefuls in the quarter-finals of the national competition, which are staged at Blackshots, Grays on Saturday.

Poplar schoolboy Des Johnson also made the last-eight line-up after defeating Brian Townsend, from Oxford, last weekend.

Repton boxers Andre Wallace and Ben Hall sparkled last weekend as they slammed good wins for a North East London ABA Divisional team in Guernsey.

Wallace stepped up for action against local rival Terry Bowring and boxed his way to an impressive points win with a series of accurate attacks.

He was later named the best visiting boxer at the Channel Islands tournament.

Repton team-mate Hall was also matched with a local rival and his clash with Andre Baker proved one of the show's top tussles.

The well-matched rivals produced a tough duel which split the judges but Hall was handed a deserved majority verdict.

Repton's Michael Channing featured in a tight contest with local rival John Woolnough and was adjudged the loser on a split decision.

Lansbury boxers recorded an impressive win treble when they appeared on a Fisher Club show on Friday.

Junior George Stockdale dominated the exchanges against Tonbridge's Chris Woodham to clinch a points verdict.

Bantam prospect Abdul Khan also shone for the Poplar-based club, boxing his way to a comfortable points win over Jimmy Wood, from Edmonton.

Lansbury's Rayhan Khan also came through a points winner following a lively clash against home club rival Jim McCrory.
