Repton have a massive 19 boxers heading for the London schools finals at Feltham on Saturday, including five boys – Rakim Tatou, Jesse Beck, Henry Turner, Johnny Hanrahan and Paddy Ward – who came through semi-final tests on Saturday.

Class One 34kg entry Tatou had to win an extra qualifying bout in his crowded division in midweek before his semi-final win at Feltham, where he outpointed Bromley’s Terry Sweeney.

Beck gave another impressive display, beating Sid Warden in his semi-final, and will be tested by Islington’s Christy McCarthy in the Class One 38kg London final.

Turner took the Class A 41kg semi-final with a good performance to defeat Stowe rival Andy Ward and goes forward to face Eltham entry John Deveney in the final.

In Class Two, Hanrahan had to overcome Andy Bellingham from south London’s Bodyshots club to move forward to the final showdown against Northolt club hope Steve Barton.

Class Three 52kg entry Paddy Ward proved too good for another Bodyshots rival, Eddie Arnold, for his semi-final victory and now faces Des Corcoran (Stowe) in the finals.

? West Ham will have a high-class quartet of national champions – Patrick Ward, Sidney Driscoll, Johnny Ellis and Joe Walder – in action at the London Schools’ finals on Saturday.

Walder qualified in the Class Three, 46kg division with a points success over Mickey Dunne (Dale Youth) and faces Earlsfield BC entry Kane Corby in his London final.

But another Hammers entry, Javade Skeete, was on the wrong end of a close verdict in his semi-final, when he was eliminated by Earlsfield’s Taylor Ayling.

? Newham BC’s Deano Gunning and Alfie Mehegan clinched their places in the London Schools’ finals at Feltham on Saturday when they scored semi-final success at the venue last weekend.

Gunning impressed on his way to beating Dale Youth entry Al Ferizi in the Class One, 44kg clash and now faces Eltham rival Chris Rochford in the final.

Mehegan showed good form with a second-round semi-final victory over Class One, 36kg rival John McDonagh (Islington) to move through to a meeting with Marvels Lane opponent Jimmy Devlin.

? Adam Florianovitch (Lansbury BC) came through a London Schools’ semi-final with a good win over tough Epson and Ewell rival Archie Thompson in the Class Two, 46kg division.

The Poplar club boxer, who had eliminated national finalist Mo Sheeraz (Debden) earlier in the competition, now faces the in-form Omar Chaima, of Finchley.

However, Lansbury’s Terry Conroy, who reached the national finals last year, was eliminated after a tight semi-final clash with Bromley’s Fred Secular in the Class Three, 63kg division.
