Repton youngsters earn London rewards

Repton boxers continued their title march with Shiloh De Freitas and Henry Turner recording London Youth final victories at Harold Hill on Sunday.

De Freitas came through a London 56kg final against his own Bethnal Green clubmate Tom Roberts in a clash that was appreciated by rival supporters at the Five Star club.

The reigning National Boys Club champion is aiming to add another title to his list and impressed as he landed his usual speedy shots, but Roberts, another national winner, slammed back with his own punches in their high-standard final.

Turner, also looking to add another national award to his success list, came through his latest test against Farhad Salam from Poplar’s Lansbury BC in the 60kg final.

It proved to be another competitive clash as Turner found the target with more effective punches, but his Lansbury rival fought back gamely.

Now Repton’s new London winners look forward to the national rounds of the England Boxing tournament.

Two days earlier, Repton boxers were in winning form at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light where senior welterweight Vilius Alisaukas came through as a good winner against local rival Luke Radcliffe.

It was also a winning night for the Bethnal Green club’s juniors as Frank Joyce took a verdict after a keenly-fought clash with Sunderland’s Blake Rush.

Joe Cooper and Patrick Docherty were two other visitors in winning form against home town opposition at the tournament.

Cooper came through his clash against Sunderland’s Mason Lodge, dominating the action with effective shots for a unanimous verdict.

Docherty also piled up the points against Sunderland’s Charlie Lichfield to earn the decision from all three ringside judges.

Repton’s George Mitchell was tested in his closely-fought contest against local rival Josh Babb, but was good value for his split points verdict.

The points were also in the balance at the end of a tight tussle between Repton’s Jorge Anderson and Sunderland rival Wallace Macleod, but the split verdict went to the home junior who was also awarded their ‘Best Boxer’ trophy.

Repton prospects Danny Joe Webb and Jimmy McCann also showed their promise in no-decision skills bouts against local rivals.

n Stepney’s Broad Street BC parade two national title winners against visiting opposition on their show at the Troxy, Commercial Road tomorrow (Friday).

National Novice champion Mohammed Yusuf and National Youth winner Tommy Green are both booked for for action on a promising bill.

The well-supported Stepney club also include RJ Douglas, Tommy Borg, Harry Bell, Nathalie Gyte, Callum Davidson and Ray Miah against visiting opposition.

Promoter Tommy Dove returns to York Hall on Saturday featuring a 15-bout bill topped by the heavyweight clash between Tom Little and Tom Dallas.

Also in action are Spiros Demetriou, Dominic Akinlade, Ashley Bailey Dumetz, Mark Williams, John Harding, Matty Parr, Scott Saward and Billy Underwood.
