Barking director of rugby Andrew Moreland believes East London fully deserved their win after seeing his side lose 29-12 at home in London Three Essex.

The Gale Street club slipped to a second straight loss in the league and their first home defeat of the campaign.

Zak Myers crossed for Barking in defeat, while the home team were also awarded a penalty try.

Moreland openly admits East London deserved their win and felt the Gale Street outfit could have delivered a better display.

“It was a strange game for us in that I feel we made it hard for ourselves, but East London fully deserved their win,” said Moreland.

“Some of the refereeing decisions in the second half left both sides baffled and the stop-start nature of the game seemed to kill any momentum we could generate.”

Despite the result, there were some positives for Barking to take such as the performance from Dan Peasnell.

And Moreland was pleased the lock was able to continue his good start to the new campaign.

“Dan has been solid for us so far off the back of a great pre-season after re-joining last term,” added the director of rugby.

“His defence all over the park has been inspiring in every game and Dan was great again on Saturday.”

The defeat to East London means Barking have won just one of their opening three league games of the campaign.

Moreland, though, is refusing to push the panic button just yet and knows this season was always going to be about setting the Gale Street club back on course to returning to their former glories.

“We have to remember where we’ve come from over the past 18 months and that changing something that had been happening for a number of years won’t happen overnight,” he said.

“The boys have a choice to make as to what direction we want to head in as a club going forward.

“There is a bit of an issue with consistency too as we’ve used close to 30 players already this season, but there’s less and less areas to improve with every week.”
