Dan Bracken was named player of the year at East London's awards dinner at the Memorial Ground, West Ham.

Captain Bracken played every minute of their 18 London Three Essex games and received his trophy from Bea Stevens, from sponsors Aspers Casino Westfield.

The evening celebrated the efforts of players, volunteers, supporters and sponsors and number eight Bracken, top scorer with 92 points from 18 tries and one conversion, plus one cup game try, said: “Being named player of the year was a great way to end my final season of first team rugby, especially as it was voted for by fellow players.”

The young player of the year was 19-year-old Rob Yiannakou, for a third year in succession, ahead of his appearance for Cyprus against Serbia on Saturday.

Chairman Nick Bracken said: “We continue to try to make East London RFC part of a successful sports hub at the Memorial Ground, of which the whole community can be proud. We thank our sponsors Aspers for their generosity and look forward to working with them in future.”

Award winners – players of the year: Dan Bracken (1st), Lucinda Thomas (Ladies), Simon Edscar (2nd), Luca Martinengo (3rd), Rob Yiannakou (young).

Most improved: Ian Needham, Nelly Vavasour.

Newcomer: Kevin O’Donoghue, Lauren Ing.

Clubperson: Ed Hoyle.
