Marshalls Park’s year eight boys booked their place in the next round of the National Cup after success in Sutton.

Confidence was high following last week’s win, but Park looked nervy in the first 10 minutes.

Long grass didn’t help the style of football they were trying to play and a long ball from Glenthorne wasn’t dealt with and their centre forward slotted past William Fisher in goal to open the scoring.

This prompted Park to change their style of play and be more aggressive with the through ball.

Joel Bevan’s long shot beat the Glenthorne keeper to level and Joshua Holmes volleyed home from a long cross to make it 2-1 at half time.

The second half saw Park dominate possession and further goals from Alfie Parrish and Holmes made sure of the victory, with Holmes chasing up a long shot for Ben Jones which came back off the crossbar.

It could have been a different story, though, as William Fisher pulled off two fantastic saves during the first half.

The first was from an indirect free kick 12 yards out and the second from a Glenthorpe penalty.

Teacher Paul Aylett said: “Will Fisher kept us in the game. He made two amazing saves which took the pressure off us.

“The boys now go into round three of the Nationals. Hopefully we can maintain the good work ethic shown by the lads.”
