School Sport: Tower Hamlets fourth in regional final

Borough kids take part in East London Panathlon
Students from Tower Hamlets put in a great performance to finish fourth in the plate tournament at the East London Panathlon finals.
The borough, represented by students from Phoenix and Beatrice Tate Schools, took part in the competition for disabled schoolchildren that featured six events.
Tower Hamlets came away with two medals after securing silver in boccia and bronze in table cricket.
They combined those results with fourth place in the kurling, polybat, field athletics and athletics relays in the tournament that also featured Newham, Havering and Waltham Forest.

Beatrice Tate student Niamh Austin said she was overjoyed to have taken part in the event,
“I enjoy Panathlon. It’s great. I get to have a good time with everyone,” said Austin.

“I earned this medal playing shot putt. I’m happy. I’m going to take it home. I’m so proud.”
Tess Rendroth, teacher at Beatrice Tate, praised the competition for the skills it teaches the competitors.
“We really like Panathlon and our kids really like it because they get to work as a team and across key stages,” said Rendroth.
“We practice in school and then they get to come to an environment like this and achieve success and share that success with each other.
“We’re assured they are going to have a good time and it’s going to be a successful day. They’re keeping fit, they’re being healthy and they’re having fun in a safe and positive environment.”
