A round-up of the latest news from the Essex County Board’s FE Chance to Shine
NewVic College dominated Tower Hamlets and Bsix College scrapped out a win over Norlington College in week 15 of the Essex Cricket Board’s FE Chance to Shine tournament.
NewVic won the toss and elected to bat, and although they lost opener Shafi Mohammed for just four runs, they got off to an excellent start with Mo Shahed in excellent form.
Shahed made 26 not out and retired, returning later in the innings to bring his total up to 38 not out from 22 deliveries, with eight threes and a rare five.
Arafat Bhuiyan and Sharjeel Marjat scored 10 runs each and NewVic finished their innings 107-5.
Tower Hamlets’ tournament struggles continued as they were undone easily thanks to various run outs.
Tahsin Chowdhury was run out for a six-ball duck by Marjat and his replacement, Tarek Ahmed, made eight runs before Marjat collected his wicket through a run out.
Opener Muhammad Shahalom had the best knock of the innings for Tower Hamlets, scoring 20 off 13 balls, but then he too was run out by Marjat and Tower Hamlets were 41-3 in the seventh over.
The rest of the order fell quietly as NewVic picked up six run outs in the match and won by 50 runs after Tower Hamlets were all out for 57.
Bsix’s match against Norlington proved to be a much closer affair. Bsix won the toss, elected to bowl first and initially it seemed like a great decision.
Tahsin Chandran went for duck and then fellow opener Hamza Wajid was caught out by Hassan Shah off Jahan Zeb’s bowling for three runs.
But the rest of the Norlington order picked up the slack as Rizwan Hussain starred with the bat, notching 34 with two fours and a maximum.
Shohaib Naseer scored 13 before he was run out by Zeb, whilst Fareed Hussain and Majeeb Mirzaman each added 10 to shore up the end of the innings.
Norlington posted 94-4 and Bsix came in for a tense run chase. Mukhtiar Jan and Javid Khan got Bsix off to a flying start, as they posted a 35-run partnership.
Jan scored 25 not out and retired, whilst Khan hit 11 runs. Rakib Ullah was dismissed for just one and Zeb was run out for six by Naseer.
Thankfully Hassan Shah was brilliant, scoring 23 runs, to lead his side over the line with just three deliveries to spare.
