Wapping's hot-rod go-kart racer Kieran Tison continues to improve after he shaved four tenths off his personal best in Sittingbourne last Saturday.

The 17-year-old from Cable Street was competing at the Bayford Meadows circuit and used his new breaking system and engine to great effect in dry conditions in only his third senior race to qualify fifth out of 13 racers.

He finished his lap dead on 46 seconds, with those above him finishing in the high 45's.

The weather took a turn for the worse on the Sunday and with only one race possible, Tison came sixth, showing great discipline and driving skill to stay on the track, while many of his rivals fell by the wayside.

He still managed to beat good, experienced drivers along the way in conditions that were so bad, two of the three races scheduled for the day had to be cancelled.

The talented teenager is the youngest senior racer on the circuit with the majority of his rivals 23 or 24-years-old and his uncle, Joe Tison, believes the future is extremely bright.

"Sunday was a really good experience for him and he was one of the front runners and to do that in only your fourth race is impressive," he beamed.

"The new breaking system and engine which were kindly bought for us by Reg Charity have really made a difference and all he needs is seat time and hopefully next year he can race in the PF, which takes in Monaco and from there go into cars.

"He can handle corners a lot better now with this car and he shaving a lot of time all over the track.

"He started karting late and if he had started earlier there is no doubt he would have been snapped up by now."

Tison's next race is in December at the Sittingbourne track and will be keen to make further progress in his first senior season.

"He's got a good team around him and he is really confident about his driving and where he is headed. He is starting to have a really good understanding of his kart and we are really happy with what he has done and believe he will continue to get better and better.
