BUCS Hockey: King’s III 0 UEL 1

UEL’s men began their new BUCS hockey season with an early push back at Honor Oak Park against King’s thirds.

The match began well with the visitors maintaining possession and pressure, forcing the King’s keeper into a number of saves.

But King’s were threatening on the counter attack and UEL keeper Chris Leek had to make a quick save to deny a one-on-one opportunity early on.

The teams remained consistent in the second half, with King’s exerting tremendous pressure on the UEL net.

The hosts thought they had taken the lead during a goalmouth scramble, but the umpire ruled the ball had not crossed the line.

And it was UEL who took the points when they broke on the right, with Sam Vincent slotting the ball inside to Jack Rosser, who then played it through for Joe Nelmes to carry into the D and confidently flick past the onrushing keeper.

The game continued to be a battle for midfield supremacy before a late onslaught from Kings in their bid to grab an equaliser.

The home team eventually won a penalty corner in the dying seconds, but their attempt was saved by Leek and the game finished with UEL victorious.

Rosser took UEL’s man of the match award for a tireless display in midfield and vital assist on the matchwinning goal.
