A clash of unbeaten light-middleweight rivals Pat McAleese and Mark Walsh headlines promoter Miranda Carter's York Hall curtain-raiser

Promoter Miranda Carter presents a clash of unbeaten light-middleweight rivals on her first Sunday afternoon show of the new boxing season at York Hall on September 13.

Pat McAleese, who is based at East London's TKO gym and has seven straight wins to his credit, is matched with Leicester rival Mark Walsh, who has three wins and a draw on his own record.

The 23-year-old McAleese will be supported by his group of vocal followers at the Bethnal Green fight-spot, where he has recorded five of his professional victories.

The bill also features a strong line-up of fighters from the TKO gym, including Liam Shinkwin, John Wayne Hibbert and Matt Jack.

Former Dagenham BC cruiserweight Tony Conquest is scheduled to make his pro debut on the bill alongside light heavyweight Billy Slate.

Ex-West ham amateur Nathan Weise is also booked for a light-middleweight meeting against Ryan Toms, while cruiserweight Leon Williams and women's super-flyweight Juliette Winter are also booked for the first show of the new season.

Ever-willing East London welterweight Johnny Greaves stepped in at less than 24 hours notice at the Newport Leisure Centre on Friday night to face former world champion Gavin Rees.

Former WBA light-welterweight title-holder Rees was making his return to the ring after nearly 18 months out of the ring on the Calzaghe Promotions show and was due to face Stoke veteran Gary Reid.

But the shock withdrawal of Reid prompted a last-minute call to Greaves, who duly headed for Wales to face a rival with just a single defeat on his record from 28 contests.

Greaves, who earned only his second win in 38 fights by beating Ali Wyatt on August 10, suffered a stoppage defeat when his cornermen pulled him out with a badly swollen eye after four rounds.

But Greaves was satisfied that he had tested the former world champion in some hard-fought exchanges.

"To be frank I thought I did well considering I took the fight against a former world champion at just a day's notice." he said.

"Rees threw a lot of punches but did not have much power and I was able to trade blows with him before I suffered the eye injury which prompted my cornermen to stop the fight.
