Contenders maintained their healthy lead at the top of the Division One table after a 23-run victory over bottom side Island Community last Tuesday

CONTENDERS maintained their healthy lead at the top of the Division One table after a 23-run victory over bottom side Island Community last Tuesday.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the unbeaten Contenders piled on the runs, as Craig Ramsey (54 not out) and Baptiste (51 not out) ran riot, losing only three wickets on their way to making 168.

"I was really pleased with the batting performance and we put up a good total," said captain Layton Worghs.

"We made a good start and built from there."

Bottom side Island Community put up a good show in reply to that large target as Rob Jones made an unbeaten 50, while Joe Tousent ended on 35 not out.

"We bowled well at the start and that put a lot of pressure on them," Worghs added.

"It's another win and we are building momentum and I am really confident for the rest of the season."

Dynamite Ducks are up to third after an unbeaten half century from Sibet Hussain helped them to a three-wicket win over London Fields.

Fields won the toss and electing to bat made a useful 156-4 from 16 overs, with Paul the best performer with an unbeaten 39, with Shimab Cheema the pick of the bowlers with 2-30 from four overs.

In reply, Hussain gave his side the ideal start with his 51 not out, while Hasnain Ali (37) also batted well, as Ducks reached the target with two overs remaining.

In a tight affair, East London Community narrowly beat London Wanderers, bettering their total in the final over of the innings.

Wanderers won the toss and batting first, were given a good start by Ralph Hindle (51 not out), who, with Chirag (31) put on 80 for the first wicket.

Marcus Elwin bowled well for Community and finished with 2-20 from three overs as Wanderers were kept to 151-4.

In reply, Altaf Bhat smashed a six from the first ball of the innings and made an impressive unbeaten 52, while Waheed Khan smashed the winning boundary with just four balls remaining.

Victoria Park Juniors were comfortable 54 run victors over an under-par Chats Palace.

Batting first, Juniors registered an impressive 169-4 with Jubayed Miah (51 not out)

Joe Fisher (41 not out) and Soyfur Rahman (42) all registering good scores.

Palace never got going and could only make 115-6 in their 16 overs.

Patrick Heapy was in sublime form with the ball as his four wickets helped Rose & Crown to a six-wicket victory over Victoria Lounge.

Lounge wickets fell at regular intervals as Crown's Heapy ran riot in his 2.2 over spell, with their opponents only able to make 80-6.

A patient 42 not out from Sean Feeney and 27 not out from Dan Heapy saw Crown reach the modest target inside 10 overs.

Pacific's bowlers were too good for Wrong'uns as they dismissed their Division Two rivals for a paltry 50 and needed only seven overs to reach the tiny target.

Not one Wrong'uns player made a real impression to the scorecard as Lucius Faisal (3-17) and Rob Allum (3-27) took them apart.

London Tigers were superb with the bat as their total of 181, was far too much for Martians, who were beaten by 67 runs.

Rasel Ahmed smashed 44, while unbeaten knocks of 53 from Sumon Khan and 52 from Shoheb helped Tigers to their huge total. Martians struggled to keep up with the run rate and made 114-7.

Junoon were narrow 11 run winners over Tower Cavaliers with Sunny Freed the hero after smashing a vital 48.

Junoon batted first and Freed received little support, although Faisal Gajia struck a vital 24 not out to push his side's score up to 127, as Andrew Dickson took 4-16 for Cavaliers, who in reply struggled with the bat.

Paul Johnson struck an unbeaten 21 and Steve Williams made 24, but it was not enough as Freed completed an excellent all-round performance by taking two wickets and leading his side to the win.

A stand out performance from stand in skipper Alex Hudson secured Old Ranwellian's second victory of the season, as they beat Regents by six wickets.

Regents batted first, with tight bowling as ever from Ford (1-22) and Eaton (1-24) restricting the rate.

The shackles came off a little for Regents, which helped them boost their total up to 107 off the allotted 16 overs, but they were pulled back by tight bowling from Hudson, who claimed 3-12 off three overs, including two smart stumpings from Mark Dewhirst.

Hudson was in magnificent form with the bat, crashing boundaries to all areas of the ground.

Whilst an out of form Eaton (13) swished aimlessly outside off stump until successfully nicking behind, Hudson showed off his full repertoire of strokes.

Hudson completed his well deserved 50 after being joined by Ford (19 not out), who began to find some form after a scratchy start including hitting the winning runs.
