VICTORIA Park and Tower Hamlets athletics club have two Middlesex county champions following last week's championships at Barnet's Copthall Stadium.

Much improved Jason Aromasodu won the Under-20 men's 400 metres title in an impressive time of 55.6 seconds, while the club's great young hope Perri Shakes-Drayton became senior ladies 400m champion.

Shakes-Drayton, who captained the Great Britain women's team at last year's European championships, posted a Middlesex record time of 53.32secs to win the title.

There were several other notable performances from Victoria Park and Tower Hamlets competitors, including a jumps double silver from Amanda Ranger.

Ranger took second place in the senior women's long jump behind Great Britain athlete Nadia Williams with a leap of 5.54m, and also finished as runner-up in the triple jump with 11.88m, second to Harrow's Angela Barrett.

Nancia Joseph also finished second in the senior women's javelin with a throw of 30.52m, although the event was won by Shaftesbury Barnet's Jenny Grimstone in an impressive 36.97m.

In the senior men's competition, Sam Sillah finished second in the long jump to seasoned international Julian Golley, from the Windsor, Slough & Eton club, with a leap of 6.60m. Golley had earlier landed a jump of 7.16m to take the title.

Hamin Lubega was third in the 200m sprint final in a time of 21.70secs while club-mate Nathan Brown finished further back in

seventh in 22.36secs.

Promising youngster Quincie Michael completed a remarkable treble in the Under-15 boys category, winning the 400 metres for the Victoria Park club in a time of 53 seconds dead, and also securing the long jump title with a leap of 5.43m and claiming the high jump crown with a Middlesex county best

clearance of 1.80m.

The Victoria Park and Tower Hamlets Under-17 women's team also enjoyed some success, including second place for Simone Keisha in the long jump. She recorded a leap of 4.83m behind winner Rebecca Wiltshire, from Thames Valley Harriers, whose winning jump was 4.90m.

Serlina Swanby-Constantine was second in the Under-15 girls 75m hurdles, crossing the line in 12.4secs to finish as runner-up by just a tenth of a second to Georgina Wilcox, from Hillingdon.
