There was plenty of action on Wednesday in the penultimate week of the Essex County Board FE Chance to Shine indoor cricket tournament at the UEL SportsDock, as Waltham Forest picked up two wins and Bsix College Tower Hamlets also came away with victories.

Waltham Forest’s won the toss and elected to bat in their first match of the day against Tower Hamlets. Openers Faizan Baig and Imran Ahmad got Waltham Forest off to the perfect start, as Baig struck 26 runs from 13 deliveries with a pair of boundaries, whilst Ahmad scored 23 off 17.

Tower Hamlet’s Tarek Ahmed stumped Sadiq Kamal for just four runs, but Rizwan Khan hit an unbeaten 12 and Waltham Forest raced away to 113-4.

In reply, Muhammad Shahalom contributed a quick 22 runs for Tower Hamlets and fellow opener Tahsin Chowdhury provided 11 more runs.

But after Ahmad ran out Shahalom and Chowdhury was dismissed for obstructing the field, the innings collapsed. Tower Hamlets remaining four batsmen combined for just four runs, with Shahed Rahman and Ashraf Uddin departing for golden ducks, and Waltham Forest won by 34 runs.

The winners were in action again right away and were put in to bat by Havering Sixth Form. Baig was unable to put up a big score this time, departing for three, but Ahmad knocked 24 runs from 16 balls.

Kamal and Khan went cheaply, but the lower order bolstered the innings, as Hamza Ghulam added 14 to the total, whilst Mustafa Ghulam scored an astounding 42 runs from just 26 deliveries, leading his team to 108-5.

Havering came in for the chase and put up a game fight. Rahib Hoque raced to 21 from just nine deliveries, but he was run out by Kamal, who also ran out Tyler Bunn for six.

Kudiwa Kamudyariwa was bowled by Hamza Ghulam for 10 runs, and Harry Murphy added a slow 12 before he was also run out by Kamal.

Ahmad then collected the scalps of George Maydell and Brandon Edwards and Havering were all out for 77, 32 runs short of victory.

Tower Hamlets returned for the second match and put Bsix College in to bat. Ahmed struck quickly, bowling Umar Ayub for six runs, but Hassan Shah scored 25 runs with one boundary before he was run out.

Although Javid Khan was the only other Bsix batsman to scored double figures, as he posted 11 runs, Bsix still raced away to 105 all out thanks to 49 extras from the Tower Hamlets bowlers.

Mukhtiar Jan wreaked havoc on the reply from Tower Hamlets as he ran out their first three batsmen. Ahmed went for 11 and Chowdhury for just three, although Shahalom knocked 22 from 18.

Humayun Badsha was bowled for duck by Shah, and a quick 12 from Shahed Rahman could not save Tower Hamlets from a second loss as Bsix won by 34 runs.

The day finished with Tower Hamlets taking to the indoor pitch for a third time to face Havering in their second match.

Havering went into bat and got off to a flyer as Hoque smashed 27 runs and retired. Bunn was bowled for three runs by Shahalom, but Kamudyariwa hit 28 from just 15 balls with two fours.

Murphy was not out for 15 and Havering posted 116-2 in their 10 overs.

Chowdhury starred in the run chase after his fellow opener Rahman was run out by Maydell for nine. Chowdhury scored his 25 runs, retired, and then returned at the end to finish with 42 runs from 21 deliveries, with one four and a maximum.

Badsha scored 12 and Shahalom added 17 from 10 with one boundary and a six, and it was third time lucky for Tower Hamlets as they won with two balls to spare.
