Super-heroes really do walk among us as the smash-hit film Kick-Ass shows.

Its story of an average student turned comic-book avenger burst onto our screen last year and has clearly struck a chord with visitors to the Genesis Cinema in Mile End Road.

They celebrated the movie with their own party and screening last night and showed off their own super-hero costumes.

Cinema owner Tyrone Walker-Hebborn, 45, led the way by throwing some karate moves while dressed as the lead character Kick-Ass.

He said: “We want these screenings to be fun and we want to do something different. “Film is one step from theatre anyway and this means there’s more of a party atmosphere inside the cinema.

“There’s no need to be quiet.”

Heiko Lingemann, 34, of Portia Way, Bow, has experience in wowing crowds while in spandex and a cape.

He works as a street performer in Covent Garden and he turned heads with his own creation, Super-Zero.

With his own green-red outfit complete with star logo and mask, he was a shoo-in to win a year’s free pass at the cinema for having the best costume.

Mara Froehlich, 21, of Brick Lane, also impressed the judges with her own improvised dress and bright pink wig, winning tickets to a mixed martial arts night.

She said: “It’s a great film because it says an average person can be a super-hero.

“I’d dress like this all the time if I could.”

Her friend, Johanne Hague, 20, of Brick Lane, was eager to see the film’s cult character Hit-Girl, a child assassin who dispatches squads of hired goons with stunning ease.

Few in the audience would have messed with another party guest Fior Avona aka Stormgirl.

A self-described ‘girl-racer’ she pulled up outside in her Nissan 370z before letting the world know that she was ‘born to race and trained to fight crime and injustice’.

Tyrone now aims to top this evening, which followed a Top Gun party in December, with further film celebrations and promises to dress as the main character for each.

With Pulp Fiction, Rocky II and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in the pipeline, he will need to be ready for a few costume changes.
