All Points East has announced its In The Neighbourhood weekday programme of free community events in Victoria Park in May.

The activities will run from Monday, May 28 to Thursday, May 31 between the main weekend events All Points East Festival and APE Presents shows, which feature acts including The xx, Bjork, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and The National.

In the Neighbourhood will feature family friendly entertainment including a free outdoor cinema, creative workshops, circus shows and yoga.

The cinema will show a range of films suitable for different ages, as well as the Free Short Films with Chisendale Studios, which is an Arts Council England and Channel 4 backed project aiming to get 16 to 24-year-olds interested in experimental cinema.

There will also be free live music on every weekday with sets from local bands Dat Brass and Kasai Masai, plus spoken work and theatre performances.

To coincide with the half-term holiday a number of the activities will be aimed at children.

Limehouse theatre Half Moon is putting on shows every day of the festival including Three Billy Goats Gruff and Other Furry Tails and Three Fairytales Unpacked.

Museum of London Docklands will also be doing storytelling sessions and there will be free children’s football workshops with charity Alive and Kicking and freestyle footballer Colin Nell.

Event manager Jenny Hamada said: “Offering our event site back to the community to enjoy a diverse range of free content is part of our continued drive to enhance the positive impact of our event.

“Promoting and celebrating local talent is the very fabric of In The Neighbourhood, with activities being sourced from the outstanding organisations and artists based throughout Tower Hamlets and areas surrounding Victoria Park.”

Mayor of Tower Hamlets, John Biggs, said: “Victoria Park is a great space for events and we are excited about All Points East coming to the borough.

“When we made the agreement we ensured that community benefits are a key part of what will be delivered.”
