Artists take inspiration from office gadgets in Canary Wharf show

OFFICE equipment from the early 1990s feature in the latest sculpture exhibition at Canary Wharf.

Clare Mitten's sculptures of objects made from recycled files, papers and gadgets looking at the changes in office life over the last 20 years will feature at the show in the lobby of Britain's tallest building at One Canada Square.

Her work also draws on the patterns from the art of the Ancient Aztecs and is shown alongside clay animal sculptures created by Stephanie Quayle. Urban foxes slink about the lobby as they do in London's streets and gardens, the orang-utan, ousted from his rainforest, sits on a throne

Exhibition curator Ann Elliott said: "On the face of it, these artists are very different, although in essence there are almost hidden links, including their speed of delivery after lengthy preparation and their total disregard for highly finished pieces. Their work is both fresh and direct."

The show starts on Monday July 5 and admission is free.
