Award winning goat sculpture to be unveiled at Spitalfields
AN award winning sculpture inspired by the various waves of migration which have shaped the landscape of the East End is to be erected in Spitalfields.
Kenny Hunter’s hand carved figure, I Goat, will be unveiled at Bishops Square on November 23.
The artist was awarded the Spitalfields Sculpture Prize for the 3.5 metre high statue, which will be seen by the 70,000 people who pass through the cultural hub each week.
Scottish sculptor Mr Hunter won both the public and judges’ vote, alongside a �45,000 commission, for his work.
The goat is an image of persecution and sacrifice, reflecting the poverty and struggles different ethnic group faced before carving out an identity for themselves in the East End.

The piece will become a part of the Spitalfields Public Art Collection, which aims to create a permanent sculpture park.
