Live orchestral music created specifically for two of London’s most iconic landmarks by composer Samuel Bordoli is being performed at Tower Bridge and The Monument as part of next month’s City of London Festival’s 50th anniversary.

The world premier of Bordoli’s new composition ‘Live Music Sculpture Two’ is the first live music ‘experience’ at Tower Bridge which takes place on July 8.

Visitors will watch 30 musicians from the Royal Academy of Music perform along the length of the high-level walkway connecting the two towers of the Victorian structure, 130ft above the Thames.

The work is repeated in rolling performances at both venues.

First is at The Monument, near London Bridge, from 3pm to 5pm, where visitors climbing the ancient spiral staircase get an aural sense of ‘ascension’ as they make their way up its 311 stone steps to the public observation platform at the top.

Then the rolling performance switches to Tower Bridge, 7-9pm where it is free.

Bordoli is a multi-award winning composer and musician holding the Mendelssohn Scholarship whose works have been performed by the London Sinfonietta, Tte Tte Opera Festival and the Southbank Sinfonia.

His composition is part of the 50th anniversary of the City Festival which aims to bring the Square Mile’s historic architecture, outdoor spaces and medieval streets to life.

The festival is ranked among the world’s leading cultural celebrations, providing a platform for newly-discovered and world-class artists in historic surroundings like the neo-Gothic Tower Bridge opened in 1894 and the Monument built to commemorate the Great Fire of London of 1666.
