They've been a much-maligned era - but judging by the number of kids wandering round Shoreditch looking like extras in a Visage video, the 80s are back in fashion.

Now the decade which gave us such varied acts as Depeche Mode, Duran Duran and Soft Cell is being celebrated with Neon, a Bank Holiday weekend charity bonaza on Thursday (April 1), featuring music from popular covers band Goat Patrol plus a whole host of DJs.

To add a dash of 80s fluorescence to proceedings, partygoers are being encouraged to wear something neon for the occasion.

Organiser Barry Causton, who is also running the London Marathon to raise funds, said: "Now that the sun is finally showing it's face, we thought it'd be a good excuse to celebrate and raise some money for charity at the same time.

"The 80s were the brightest decade, and perfect to bring some colour back into our lives.

"If you remember global hypercolour t-shirts and pop swatches, you'll love Neon and what better day to return to an excessive decade than April Fool's?"

The event, to raise money for the NSPCC, kicks off at 8pm in the basement of The Phoenix pub in Cavendish Square, next to Oxford Circus tube. Admission is 3.
