Ex-SAS sniper Chris Ryan in Canary Wharf book-signing for his novel set in war-torn Syria

A former SAS sniper is unveiling his latest novel set in current war-torn Syria when he makes an appearance at Canary Wharf.

Chris Ryan signs copies of his book ‘Masters of War’ on Friday week, August 30.

The topical story that unfolds in the middle of the civil war introduces protagonist ‘Danny Black,’ a man who finds himself sucked into the dark and morally ambiguous world of the private military.

Ryan, now 52, enrolled in the army at 16 and went on to join the SAS at 25.

He was appointed sniper commander of an anti-terrorism team and was the only one in his eight-man unit to escape alive from SAS ‘Mission Bravo Two Zero’ in Iraq during the Gulf War, with his seven colleagues captured or dead.

He managed to evade Iraqi forces in the longest escape in SAS history, covering 200 miles inside enemy territory, which earned the Military Medal.

His book signing at Waterstone’s book store in Canary Wharf’s Jubilee Place starts at 12.30pm on August 30.
