A new ‘physical’ game, developed by PlayStation and amateur designers, can be tested by the public for the first time in east London on October 8

Games addicts can put down their controllers today (October 8) and grab the first chance to play a new social game called Blocks when it is launched in east London.

The physical game, created by amateur designers selected by software giants Sony PlayStation, involves players stacking uneven blocks in a tower while making sure symbols on the block faces match up and will be tested by the public at The Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane tomorrow afternoon.

Eight ‘game runners’, including Celeste Houlker, 19, from East Ham and Haroon Anwar, 19, from Wanstead, submitted one-minute videos demonstrating their creativity and were then picked to act as game developers, with the help of PlayStation games designers and London company Hide & Seek.

Over 12 weeks, they came up with three prototype designs with Blocks eventually being chosen after receiving 4000 votes through the Games Runners Facebook page.

The other two options were Flags, a noughts-and-crosses-style game and Hoops, a street game involving shooting balls through hidden hoops.

Interested gamers can give Blocks a try from 12 to 5pm, before a knock-out finals tournament while aerosol artists will entertain crowds with a live painting session.
